Ten Minute Blog Post-Kings Quest and Orbits

Quick ten minutes of writing post.

It's been too long since I've updated The Chronic Monster! Blogging like a monster? Maybe snoring like a monster! But the past two months have been extremely busy! Ladies and men, I am no sluggard! My city's community theatre asked me to play the role of Lucien P. Smith in the moving and hilarious play "The Boys Next Door." Lucien P. Smith is innocence, he is unwittingly hilarious, he is sometimes obnoxious to those around him, but he is loved by all. Even the very nervous Arnold. The Boys Next Door was made into a movie in 1996. If you have never seen it then pick it up. Your library may have a copy, Amazon keeps a copy or two on hand.

Aside from the play I was recently accepted into Udacity's front-end web development nanodegree program. I am part of an inaugural class with 300 to 400 other students eager to learn web development and the languages of HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

It's funny how life comes full circle. When I was a kid my best friend and I were deeply influenced by the works of Roberta Williams. True nerds of my generation are geeking out knowing the name Sierra is tied to that inspirational woman. She is responsible for the Kings Quest series. We also played Space Quest III for hours. I only remember one of the developers was named Scott. The point is we wanted to create video games for computers. By high school, however, he discovered sex and I was swept up by Environmentalism. Environmentalism led to a deep pursuit of religion. All of that led to a dead end road and now, some ten or fifteen years later I'm back where I started wishing that maybe I had pursued C++ with greater effort.

But life is funny in these regards, the circles and tangents that we move in. As planets orbit the sun so to do our lives orbit...what...our dreams? passions...yea let's go with passions.

Well folks, that's my ten minutes. I rather enjoyed this blogging off the hip. Let's do it again very soon.
